The festival originally began as a private initiative, but institutional support from public entities such as the Madrid City Authorities by way of “Promoción Madrid” (Department for the Arts and the Department of Economy) has already been obtained. The Festival also counts with the support and collaboration of different countries embassies in Madrid.
FilmaMadrid will be a film festival dedicated exclusively to feature films and the understanding of cinema as a pure form of culture, as opposed to mere spectacle.
WHAT CHARACTERIZES US
1. Careful selection.
The festival will be small (a maximum of 20 films will be shown) but very ambitious, removed from the party atmosphere typically associated with such events and preferring instead to focus both on the high level of films shown and on the audience in attendance.
2. Thorough and serious selection process.
The festival will distance itself from all sense of frivolity and disregard all interpretation of film as anything other than art.
3. Quality and cutting edge.
The staging and design of the festival shall be both exquisite and cutting edge; the utmost care will be taken over every detail we deem essential to the success of FilmaMadrid.
4. Involvement of the public.
The Festival will also feature an out of competition section for directors and actor-directors, aimed at introducing art house films to a wider public.
5. Multi-disciplinary.
Special attention will be given to disciplines traditionally relegated to supporting roles. We will show a selection of films, out of competition but within the festival itself, which excel in the following disciplines: artistic direction, music, costume and cinematography.
The Foundation is working on the creation of a series of advisory committees composed of specialists in each of the different sectors mentioned, with a view to having the best people on board in each of the activities described above. |
